The vehicles have changed more than the road has. A quarter century ago the cars coming through were mostly sedans, mostly on steel wheels with modest paint finishes, and almost none of them had a camera or a sensor anywhere on the exterior. The fleet on US 19 today is dominated by crossovers and pickups, riding higher, wearing softer clear coats and carrying parking sensors, radar behind the badge and cameras in the mirrors and the tailgate.
None of that is trivia. It changes how a vehicle is handled: what can be touched, where a brush can go, which panels move differently through a tunnel, and which surfaces will show a mark that would not have shown on the paint of twenty years ago. Somebody who has watched that transition happen one vehicle at a time did not have to be taught it.
What that is worth at the counter
Car care has high staff turnover almost everywhere. That is not a criticism of the trade, it is simply what the numbers look like, and it is why most customers of most washes are dealt with by somebody new each time. The practical consequence is that nobody accumulates any memory of your particular car.
Continuity is the opposite of that. A person who has been on the same forecourt for twenty five years has seen your model, in this climate, at this mileage, in this state of repair, many times before. That is a different service from the same work done by somebody in their third week.
