Why two is a more interesting number than one
One person staying somewhere for twenty five years can be explained several ways. Two people doing it at the same small business, at the same time, is harder to explain away, because the odds of that happening by accident are much worse than the odds of it happening once.
Vehicle services is not an industry where this is common. Washing, detailing and lube work are physically demanding, they are often seasonal, and the pattern across the sector is that people move on quickly. A shop where two of the people on the forecourt have each been there a quarter of a century is not a shop that is running the normal pattern.
What it changes at the counter
Most of the value is invisible and it is all the same shape: not having to explain things twice. Somebody who has been here that long knows which vehicles need the mirrors folded and which do not, which aftermarket accessories will catch, which paint finishes mark easily, and which requests a customer asks for every single visit.
It also changes what happens when something is unusual. A person in their first season has to escalate anything they have not seen. A person in their twenty sixth year has already seen most of it, and the difference shows up as fewer surprises rather than as anything dramatic.
And it means somebody on site remembers how the business handled a situation the last time it came up, which is a form of institutional memory that no written procedure really replaces.
